Sometimes a new year doesn’t begin with fresh energy, but with a deep sigh. And that’s exactly where I want to meet you today.
A Quiet Start to the Year
Every year, we somehow think: This year will be better. Better as a mom. Better as a woman. Maybe also better as a (not-yet) mom. And yet, a few weeks later, we find ourselves realizing: it’s not that simple. Resolutions alone don’t change anything if we don’t approach them consciously. And that’s exactly where I am right now. Or rather: where I was in January.
I’m not writing this post because everything is running smoothly again. I’m writing it because I want to be honest. With you. With myself. With this blog.
Resolutions vs. Reality: Wanting to Be “Better”
I had plans. Big ones, actually. This blog was supposed to be better, cooler, more exciting this year. I wanted to structure the content, build new categories, and create more value. Mentally, I felt prepared. But I didn’t change anything consciously.
Why? Because I’m still in a kind of survival mode. And in a constant adaptation mode as a mom. Just when you think you’ve figured things out, the next challenge appears around the corner. New phases, new questions, new insecurities. Motherhood isn’t something you learn once and then master forever. It’s movement. Change. Growth. And sometimes, simply exhaustion.
Sick, Drained, and Not Ready to Heal
As if all that wasn’t enough, the beginning of the year completely threw me off track. I was sick. Not just for a few days, but for weeks. I dragged myself from one week to the next, and it just didn’t get better.
And honestly? A part of me didn’t even want to get well. Because getting better means having to function again. Being present again. Performing again. Carrying everything again.
I strongly believe that a mom’s recovery process takes twice as long as that of a non-mom. Not because we’re weaker—but because we rarely, if ever, get a real break. A break where you can truly rest. Where no one needs anything from you. Where you can simply exist.
That kind of pause is rare. And that defined my January.
Thoughts in Stillness: The Blog in My Head
In the few moments when I could briefly catch my breath, this blog was there. In my head. As a thought. As a guilty conscience. As a quiet hope.
I thought about what I wanted to write. Who I wanted to reach. How much I love this space. And at the same time, I lacked the strength to actually do it. That, too, is part of the truth.
I didn’t prepare consciously. Life—and my illness—forced a different rhythm on me. And maybe that was necessary.
Staying Authentic – Even With Breaks
What I want to tell you today is simple: this blog will continue. I’m still here. But it won’t be perfectly scheduled. There will be phases with short breaks. And maybe even with longer blogging pauses.
That doesn’t mean you can’t write to me. Quite the opposite. Your messages mean so much to me. I read every single one. And I do respond in a timely way. This exchange isn’t an obligation for me—it’s connection.
This blog should be exciting, inspiring, and encouraging. But above all, it should remain authentic. Real. Unfiltered. Just like motherhood itself.
My Why: International Moms in Germany
The real purpose of this blog post is very simple: I want to say that I’m still here. That I still want to share authentic motherhood with you. And that my heart is still with you—the international moms living here in a foreign Germany.
I know how overwhelming this country can feel. The bureaucracy. The language. The constant feeling of having to explain who you are. Some categories on the blog may change. The structure may evolve. But my mission remains the same: to help you find your way here. To encourage you. To show you that you are not alone.
An Honest Takeaway for Other Parents
If I’ve learned one thing from this January, it’s this: you don’t always have to be consciously strong. Sometimes it’s enough to be consciously honest. With yourself.
If you’re currently in survival mode, that is not failure. It’s a sign that you’re carrying a lot. And maybe the first small step isn’t a new resolution—but a little more compassion for yourself.
What is this blog mainly about?
Authentic motherhood, honest experiences, and practical support—especially for international moms in Germany.
Will there still be regular blog posts?
There will be posts, but not always on a fixed schedule. Quality, honesty, and health come first.
Can readers contact you personally?
Yes, absolutely. Messages are always welcome, and I truly value the exchange.
Now I’d love to hear from you:
How did your year start? Did you begin with resolutions—or did you land straight in survival mode? Feel free to share in the comments. I’m really looking forward to connecting with you.
