Welcome to Mommy Hero — let’s grow this community together

Welcome to Mommy Hero — the English Mom Community in Germany that helps you connect, share, and grow together.
When I first imagined Mommy Hero, I pictured a warm, honest corner of the internet where new and expecting moms — especially those living in Germany but who speak English — could land and feel less alone. I imagined real stories, imperfect days, tiny victories and practical help. I pictured a place where we cheer for each other, even when our choices look different.

This post follows the same personal, reflective style I use across the blog: intimate, honest, and encouraging. It’s my open invitation to you to join something small that can become something strong.

Why I want to build this community

Becoming a parent is wonderful and it’s confusing. Add living in a country where you don’t share the same language or cultural habits, and that loneliness can multiply. I know this firsthand — making friends as an expat mom can be hard, appointments are in another language, and social expectations sometimes feel foreign.

I want Mommy Hero to be a safe, English-speaking place for:

 • pregnant people,

 • new moms in their first year,

 • partners who support them, and

 • anyone who wants honest, non-judgmental support.

My hope is simple: that every member feels seen, supported and accepted — no matter whether you breastfeed or bottle-feed, bed-share or sleep-train, work full-time or parent full-time. Those decisions are personal, and every mother knows what’s best for her child. Here, we treat that knowledge with respect.

What this community will stand for

There are a few values I want to make clear from the start:

Respect for choices. We celebrate differences. Feeding method, sleep arrangements, return-to-work plans — none of these are grounds for judgment here. We exchange experiences, not verdicts.

Practical support. Real tips for the messy middle: how to find an English-speaking pediatrician, navigating maternal health services in Germany, sleep strategies that respect your family context, postpartum mental health resources, and simple hacks that make tiny days easier.

Emotional safety. A compassionate space where hard feelings are allowed. If something is painful, say it. If something is joyful, shout it. We hold both.

Accessibility. This is a digital-first community because that’s how many of us connect across distances. But digital can lead to in-person one day — meetups, playdates, or workshops — if the community grows and members want it.

How I imagine our early steps

Because we’re starting small, I want to be transparent about my plans and invite you to shape them:

 • Weekly themes and prompts to spark conversation (Orientation in Germany, postpartum and self care, authentic motherhood, community and inspiration).

 • Shared resources: downloadable checklists for birth and the first weeks, recommended English-speaking services in German cities, and gentle how-tos.

 • Future spaces for deeper connection like a private group or local meetups — only if you want them.

I’ll be the one to write, curate and start conversations — but this community is yours as much as mine. Your voice matters.

How you can join in (even if you’re reading this as the very first visitor)

1. Leave a comment below telling me where you are (city/country) and one thing you wish you had known before your baby arrived.

 2. Share this post with one other mom who might need a place like this.

 3. Send me ideas: topics you want covered, guests you’d like me to invite, or community features you’d love to see.

Even if there are only a few of us right now, starting with intention matters. Great communities begin with small, consistent steps and a lot of goodwill.

My promise to you

I promise to host this space with kindness, curiosity and honesty. I promise to protect a culture of respect where questions are welcome and judgement is not. And I promise to keep shaping the community in response to your needs — because this isn’t a one-person show. It’s a shared journey.

Extra value — a practical tip to start today

If you’re feeling isolated: pick one small, concrete step this week. Text one mom you know (or reach out here in the comments), go for a short stroll with the stroller and post one snapshot with a line about how it felt, or make a tiny list of three things that helped you this week. Small acts of connection build momentum.

Question for you: What do you need most from an English-speaking moms’ community in Germany right now — practical tips, emotional support, local meetups, resource lists, or something else? Tell me below. Your answer will shape the next steps of Mommy Hero.
